Health and Safety Committee

Meeting Minutes - March 26, 2007

Present: David Phillips, Steve Goodsell, Kyla Tinham, Ernie Baatz

1. Committee Training - Kyla called a number of the Worksafe Training Providers and is looking to book us into a course in April.  First choice is the course on preventing musculo-sceletal injuries.  Second choice is the workshop on running an effective health and safety committee.

2. Review Injury / Incident reports from past month:  There have been no Worksafe claims this past month.  Anecdotally, there were reports of incidents that could have been Worksafe claims.  Ernie and Kyla will review the guidelines for Worksafe claims with the managers team tomorrow.

3. Review Incident Reviews completed:  Kyla followed up on incident from Graffiti program saying that new behaviour management plans were in place and staff were scheduled for Mandt training.

4. Health and Safety Bulletin: We will have a Health & Safety bulletin ready for insertion in this week's paystubs.  Topics will include when to file a worksafe claim, universal precautions and Hepatitis B vaccinations, reporting unsafe working conditions.

5. April 30th meeting will be a training day for the Health and Safety committee.  Other interested folks could be invited as well.

6. Vehicle Maintenance:  This is an area of workplace safety that some programs could improve.  The maintenance of Spectrum's vehicles is the responsibility of the program manager.  Often, one staff person is delegated to conduct regular maintenance checks and ensure scheduled maintenance is conducted.

7. Reporting unsafe working conditions: We will create a form for reporting unsafe working conditions and post it on the Spectrum website and share it with the managers at their training day on the 27th of March.

8. Update Safety Committee website: Ernie will update the website and post minutes of meetings there.
