All_Access_Pass-2015-11-28-818x549

The “Accessibility Collective” at UBC’s radio station CiTR 101.9FM. produces a weekly radio program called “All Access Pass”, Mondays from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Topics talked about are equity, inclusion and accessibility for people with diverse abilities, on campus and beyond.

http://www.citr.ca/radio/all-access-pass/

They are seeking:

1) Individuals to join the Collective and help produce content both behind the scenes and on air.

2) Community members who are passionate about an issue, want to get the word out about it and are willing to be interviewed.

Collective members must first be a member of CiTR and that is $30-35 a year. We usually meet in person out at UBC on Mondays at 5:00 pm to plan the show for next Monday. It is a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in radio broadcasting or journalism. It’s also a great way to make a social connection with the community of radio as well as the community around us.

Feel free to get in touch with Deepi Leihi or  CiTR’s Accessibility Collective Coordinator:  accessibilitycollective@citr.ca

Widening Our World (WOW) Awards

Listen

4273_CLBC_WOW_BrandRefresh_finalEvery year, Community Living BC’s Widening Our World (WOW) Awards celebrate the different ways people are building inclusion across B.C.

What do we mean by inclusion?
An example might look like people of all abilities doing something together – like being in a classroom, at work, at a community or sporting event, or playing in a band. Or it could be a self-advocate taking a leadership role, or a family member raising awareness about abilities in community.

The WOW awards are intended to show everyone in B.C. what an inclusive community looks like. When you nominate someone for a WOW Award, we are asking you to answer questions about how the person(s) you are nominating is making their community a place where people of all abilities are valued and respected.

Winner_Garth McGreedy - photo 3 - webWe are also asking you to take a photo to submit with your nomination that shows us what the person you are nominating is doing to make their community a welcoming place –  and explain why you think what they are doing is inclusive and deserves recognition. Photos really help to show people what inclusion looks like.

We know people are doing this work all across the province. Whether it is an employer, teacher, support worker, volunteer, self advocate or someone else breaking down barriers, we are looking to you to tell us about it – and show us what it looks like!

Click here to nominate an inclusion champion in your community

The nomination deadline is 5:00 p.m. on November 30, 2016 (sorry, no late entries will be accepted).

Winners of this year’s WOW Award will be chosen by a Selection Committee in December 2016 and will be announced on the CLBC website in early 2017.

Award presentation events that include the photos will be held in early 2017 in the winners’ home communities.

Fire Ball Art Show

Date: October 11th to December 9th, 2016
Location: Anvil Centre, 777 Columbia Street, New Westminster (Across the street from the New West Skytrain Station)

Throughout the month of October, communities across BC are promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity, bringing awareness to the strengths and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities. Opening during Community Inclusion Month and closing on International Day of Persons with Disabilities Inclusion BC Foundation is mounting an exhibition called Fire Ball, showcasing the vibrant and visceral talent of artists with intellectual disabilities.

The works that make up the show are the result of a high-octane day tour of Community Inclusion art studios starting in our headquarter city, New Westminster, where we visited Pottery Works brand new location just around the corner on Victoria Street, Artists Helping Artists in Burnaby, Bridge Art Studio in Langley and Alternative Creations in Vancouver.

Gravitating to paintings and drawings that depict the natural world, its disasters and demons the works of Fire Ball are brazen in their points of views and as supernatural as BC itself.

Fire Ball runs from Oct 11th – Dec 9th in the Anvil Centre Community Art Space. Opening night is Friday, October 14th from 5-7pm featuring a tour, bar and meet and greet with the artists. Closing night is December 3rd, the evening of our Film Festival.

MUSIC CLASS

TUESDAY NIGHT MUSIC JAM!

Taught by Patti Palm
Patti performs with The Madrigal Singer (classical) at VCC, City Soul Choir (World Music, Roots, Gospel) and leads the Patti Palm Quartet (Jazz)

This Theatre Terrific Music Jam class will look at Music in many different ways. What is it? Is it something your body can’t stop moving too? Is it singing in a choir? Is it tapping you pencil on a jar? Is it written on a piece of sheet music? Does it come from the keystrokes on your computer? Is it fun? The answer is yes to all of these!

Music has been around forever in many different ways.
You hear it the ocean, in a breeze, feel it on a busy city street.
Music lives in you, me and all of us.
How does it make you feel?
Let’s explore it together!

No background in singing? Don’t sweat it. This class is open to anyone, regardless of previous musical experience or abilities.
Our curriculum practice is based on building a strong Music ensemble and Community.
We tackle vocal technique, ear training, rhythms, body percussion and sounds.

Come on in and discover your Musical abilities in a fun and supportive way!

Where: Vancouver Japanese United Church (4010 Victoria St at 23rd Ave.)
When: Tuesday’s, October 18th to December 6th (with a performance at the December 8th Theatre Terrific AGM)
