    1. Link to document on the health and safety website
  2.   This f= orm allows that process to be better documented and to ensure all concerns have been heard, documented and responded to.  The form would be used when a= new program starts or a significant change occurs in a program or at Spectrum.  A review date = is also set whenever a Risk Assessment is completed.
  3.   This form is then sent to Per= sonnel so that Spectrum can complete the Employer’s report within 72 ho= urs of injury.
    1. Any time an employee is injured at work and needs to see a doctor or miss work, they must notify their manager and complete a report of injury = (or illness)
  5. WorksafeBC does file review of registered organizations and decided that Spectrum needed a review.  Worksaf= eBC’s sole mission is the safety of workers.
  6. In the Health Care sector, their priority is address workplace violence = and back care.

    1. Spectrum has the benefit of good experience over the past years and our rate is $0.92 per $100 of assessable payroll.
    2. The WorkSafeBC philosophy is to promote internal re= sponsibility for workplace safety.  I= t is the responsibility of employees, supervisors and the agency to promote safe practices, good training, and ensure safe work environments.
    3. Health And Safety Committees are a requirement of the act.  Spectrum’s implementat= ion of this committee does not fully comply with the act in the following wa= ys:
      1. Non union workplaces must select representatives by secret ballot.  Our current process of teams selecting individuals is not quite in compliance.
      2. Each member of the committee must receive 8 hours per year of training.
      3. There must be at least two representatives from direct line staff and two = from management.
      4. There must be co-chairs – one from direct line staff and one from management.
      5. Decision-making is intended to be by consensus.&nbs= p; If a decision cannot be reached within 21 days, an issue can = be submitted to WorksafeBC for resolution.<= /li>

    4. Training sessions are available at BCIT and through Works= afeBC – the Employers’ Advisor.
    5. Priorities for WorksafeBC in our sector are:
      1. Ensuring there is workplace violence prevention program in place
      2. Focusing on Back Care – in particular manual transfers.
      3. Formalize our Accident Investigation processes.
    6. Questions and Answers:
      1. If an employee is trained improperly, could his claim be denied? Gordon= : It is rare that an employee’s claim for injury is denied.  The only reason that a clai= m for an injury at work would be denied is if the activity at the time of injury was clearly outside of the scope of regular work.  Examples would be a CSW cli= mbing on a roof to do repairs. 
      2. When are assessments of manual lifts conducted?  Gordon: On intake, and then= when significant changes occur, such as a decline in functioning of the i= ndividual, or an increase in the weight of the individual.
      3. Who conducts assessments of lifts? Gordon: Physiotherapists or Occupatio= nal Therapists.  There shou= ld be an emphasis on selecting the method that presents the lowest risks to team members.
      4. Would representatives be elected from the employee group at large or from smaller groups of individuals? Gordon:  We can come up with our own strategies - for example a representative of day programs, a representative of group homes, a representative of family care, and a management representative or two...  Each group coul= d vote for their representative.  Or it could be at-large elections.&nbs= p; Any workplace with 20 or more staff needs its own health and safety committee.
    7. Next steps: WorksafeBC can write up orders for certain actions, but in this situation will make recommendations and = work with us to get the above priorities addressed.
