Thank you to everyone who came out to our first Connecting Over Curry evening on September 4th, 2013. I hope you had as much fun as I did and enjoyed the delicious food of the Jambo Grill and our host Nash.
At the same time in England, Wales and Scotland, over 200 other people were getting together in their favourite Curry Places and discussing Social Care. The events were marketed and shared through the twitter account @socialcarecurry and also on their Social Care Curry Blog. There is a great blog post with pictures from the 13 events in four countries on September 4th and 5th, which you can read and see the fun that was had by everyone.
I was interested to learn more about Social Care, and found this Jargon Dictionary. Here is a definition of Social Care:
Care and support for adults who need extra help to manage their lives and be care independent – including older people, people with a disability or long-term illness, people with mental health problems, and carers. Adult social care includes assessment of people’s needs, provision of services or allocation of funds to enable you to purchase your own care and support. It includes residential care, home care, personal assistants, day services, the provision of aids and adaptations and personal budgets.
This sounds alot like what we call Community Living, doesn’t it? What was on the agenda for the Social Care Curry event? Here’s how it is described on the blog:
Is there a plan for the evening? There will be no presentations or key note speeches. All you have to do is chat and eat curry. If this works well there is the possibility of a trip to the pub afterwards. If it doesn’t, run like the wind! The curry club is a gathering of folks who wish to discuss and debate, no-one attends as as a representative of an organisation or group, so lift all that baggage off at the door and collect in on the way out when you have a nice full tummy and brain.
Our next event is scheduled for December 5th, 2013 at the same place, the Jambo Grill, at 5pm and you can register at EventBrite: https://connectcurrydec2013.eventbrite.com . There is no charge to attend the event, but each person is responsible for their own meal and drinks.
If you like curry and an excuse for an evening out with interesting people, we would be happy to see you there.
