With COVID infection rates on the rise and cold and flu season around the corner, we would like to send out a reminder of important information and resources regarding health and safety procedures.

Basic Safety Measures – The Golden Rules

  1. ! ! ! PLEASE STAY HOME IF YOU ARE FEELING SICK OR UNWELL ! ! !
    2. Wear a mask if you are in crowded public places.
    3. Get vaccinated, Get your Booster.
    4. Meet with friends outside so there is more fresh airflow and less chance of infection.

Vaccines:

BC Centre for Disease Control is recommending getting an updated COVID-19 vaccine when the next vaccination campaign launches this fall. This campaign will be based on the recommendations of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI). NACI recommends getting your next dose during the fall campaign to be the most up to date with the latest variants. *Please note: It’s also recommended you wait at least 6 months from your last dose before getting another dose*.

It is also recommended to get the flu shot to protect yourself from influenza this fall, and same as the previous year, it will be possible to book you COVID booster and flu shot in the same appointment.

Spectrum will be releasing more information in our weekly newsletters when the fall campaign for COVID boosters and flu shots begins, and when more information on how to book your appointment and accessible flu clinics becomes available.

Handwashing:

Please wash your hands often with hot water and soap for at least 20 seconds, or if this is not available, an alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used.

Masks:

Please wear a mask in places where it is required or asked, if you are feeling sick and cannot avoid other people, and as a personal choice.

Both Medical Masks (100 per box) and KN-95 respirators (20 per box) are available at Spectrum’s office!

Cleaning Surfaces:

Please clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces such as counters, doorknobs, light switches, cellphones, and toilets. Here is Health Canada’s Approved list of cleaning products effective against COVID-19.

Gathering Options and Spaces:

It is your personal choice to take additional measures when it comes to social gatherings. This could be meeting in smaller groups, staying farther apart, wearing a mask and/or meeting outdoors. If meeting indoors, places with good air flow and ventilation, along with opening windows and doors to bring in fresh air is recommended.

Covid Testing:

Common COVID-19 Symptoms from BCCDC:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Loss of sense of smell or taste
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Runny nose
  • Sneezing
  • Extreme fatigue or tiredness
  • Headache
  • Body aches
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

If you suspect you may have COVID-19, STAY HOME, and please use a rapid test if you are unsure. Remember, it can take 3 to 7 days after infection for there to be enough antigens to be detected by the test. Rapid test kits are available at Spectrum’s office, as well as BC Pharmacies. The rapid test kits available at Spectrum’s office are Artron (5 tests per kit).

*Important Information about Artron Tests from BC Centre for Disease Control*

If you take a rapid test and the results are positive, you most likely have COVID-19, and can pass it on to others.

Here is what to do next and how to manage symptoms.
