Resume Writing Tips

by Emma Grenkie

Since starting our Employment Supports journey with Spectrum, we’ve noticed that many people are interested in creating, updating, and getting support with resume writing. We love helping out with Resumes! Below are some quick tips to help get you started:

  • Make sure you include your Full Name and Contact Information (email address and phone number) on the top center where it stands out. This is very important so the employers can contact you!
  • Cater your resume to the job you want:

Example 1: If you’re applying to work in a dog daycare, include your experience as a dog walker at the top

Example 2: If you’re applying to work for a magazine, include a link to your blog

  • Include your education, volunteer, work experiences. Everything counts!
  • Use Action Words to describe the tasks you’ve done at your previous workplaces

Example 1: “Folded clothes”

Example 2: “Cleared Tables”

  • Is your resume looking short? That’s ok! Include personality traits that make you unique and a good worker
