As part of the third year of the public sector Shared Recovery Mandate, we have received confirmation of funding for wage increases effective April 2024. We are pleased that the government has continued to treat all community social service workers equitably, providing the same increases to union and non-union workers.
Beginning in April 2024, the Province is providing funding for two increases:
- A 2% general increase to wages.
- A Cost of Living Allowance of 1%.
There is an additional small increase retroactive to April 2023 due to the comparability initiative included in the Shared Recovery Mandate. The government is pursuing comparability for the community social services sector and community health. A 0.5% increase back to April 2023 is included in these new rates, and a small retroactive amount will be paid by the end of June. We’ll let you know when we know more about how the funding is being provided.

Other Changes:
Our benefits rates for Health, Dental and Long Term Disability went up by 20% this year and we are pleased to confirm that we will be able to maintain our existing coverages. We are exploring ways to make sure the benefits plan continues to meet the needs of you and your family while we maintain control of the costs. Here is a link to the current SunLife Benefits Booklet.
Thank you for your service to the people we support enabling them to have good lives in the community. We will continue to work with you to ensure our wages, benefits and employment policies provide you with the support you need to be successful in our work.
