Widening Our World (WOW) Awards
Every year, Community Living BC’s Widening Our World (WOW) Awards celebrate the different ways people are building inclusion across B.C.
What do we mean by inclusion? An example might look like people of all abilities doing something together – like being in a classroom, at work, at a community or sporting event, or playing in a band. Or it could be a self-advocate taking a leadership role, or a family member raising awareness about abilities in community.
The WOW awards are intended to show everyone in B.C. what an inclusive community looks like. When you nominate someone for a WOW Award, we are asking you to answer questions about how the person(s) you are nominating is making their community a place where people of all abilities are valued and respected.
We are also asking you to take a photo to submit with your nomination that shows us what the person you are nominating is doing to make their community a welcoming place – and explain why you think what they are doing is inclusive and deserves recognition. Photos really help to show people what inclusion looks like.
We know people are doing this work all across the province. Whether it is an employer, teacher, support worker, volunteer, self advocate or someone else breaking down barriers, we are looking to you to tell us about it – and show us what it looks like!
Click here to nominate an inclusion champion in your community
The nomination deadline is 5:00 p.m. on November 30, 2016 (sorry, no late entries will be accepted).
Winners of this year’s WOW Award will be chosen by a Selection Committee in December 2016 and will be announced on the CLBC website in early 2017.
Award presentation events that include the photos will be held in early 2017 in the winners’ home communities.

MUSIC CLASS
TUESDAY NIGHT MUSIC JAM!
Taught by Patti Palm
Patti performs with The Madrigal Singer (classical) at VCC, City Soul Choir (World Music, Roots, Gospel) and leads the Patti Palm Quartet (Jazz)
This Theatre Terrific Music Jam class will look at Music in many different ways. What is it? Is it something your body can’t stop moving too? Is it singing in a choir? Is it tapping you pencil on a jar? Is it written on a piece of sheet music? Does it come from the keystrokes on your computer? Is it fun? The answer is yes to all of these!
Music has been around forever in many different ways.
You hear it the ocean, in a breeze, feel it on a busy city street.
Music lives in you, me and all of us.
How does it make you feel?
Let’s explore it together!
No background in singing? Don’t sweat it. This class is open to anyone, regardless of previous musical experience or abilities.
Our curriculum practice is based on building a strong Music ensemble and Community.
We tackle vocal technique, ear training, rhythms, body percussion and sounds.
Come on in and discover your Musical abilities in a fun and supportive way!
