There is a Federal Election scheduled for this year, in October 2015, and it is important to make sure you are registered to vote. As well, voting is recognized as one of the key responsibilities of citizenship, and the people we support should also be aware of the requirements to vote.
There is information on assisting people with disabilities to vote, including information for people with visual impairments and people who require assistance to vote.
As well, information on voting is available in multiple languages, including:
- Tagalog
- Chinese
- Serbian
- and many more on the Elections Canada site section on Ethnocultural Communities.
Let us know if you have any questions or run into any challenges. We only get the chance to vote every few years (next Provincial Election scheduled for May 2017), so let’s get out and show our politicians we are interested in their actions.
if you have examples of how you have helped people understand the voting process, you could tell a story in the comment box below. Thanks for helping everyone get involved.
