Growing Leadership
Growing Leadership at Spectrum
We believe everyone has strengths and gifts, and anyone can be a leader when those gifts are put to work. At Spectrum, we support people to explore growth and take on new responsibilities, so they can contribute in new ways and help strengthen the support we offer.
Leadership development starts with a conversation.
Our Approach
Leadership development at Spectrum is practical and person-centred. Learning happens through real work, mentorship, and reflection, not just training. The skills you build are meant to be useful in your day-to-day work.
How It Works
We create development plans together with each person and their supervisor. These plans focus on a few clear goals and practical activities.
A mentor (an experienced staff member) meets one-to-one to reflect, share feedback, and help shape next steps over time.
This might include things like mentoring new staff, leading a small project, facilitating a meeting, or trying out an acting manager role.
Who Can Join?
Anyone can ask for a development plan, and supervisors can also suggest it (with your input and consent).
Having a plan doesn’t guarantee a promotion, but it does mean you’ll get support, clear expectations, and chances to try new responsibilities in a safe way.
We aim to make these opportunities visible, fair, and accessible to everyone across the organization.
