Thanks to everyone who showed up for our 2014 Open House and Annual General Meeting on October 25, 2014. We had over 90 people come by on Saturday afternoon to visit, have snacks, and check out presentations.
Anne Maria and her team did a great job of getting the office ready for the Open House and ensuring we had enough refreshments for everyone! Thank you Anne Maria, Jacki, Lanni, Sarah and Yasemin for the making sure everyone felt welcome!
The Employment For All! presentation by Conrad Tyrkin was of great interest and is linked here for you to review. Conrad had a very interactive talk about the why’s and how’s of getting a job.
We had a table of materials on Representation Agreements to help people who are looking to formalize their assisted decision making. Handouts from Nidus Personal Planning Resource Centre and Registry included:
- Self Determination for All Adults
- Health Care Consent – How decisions are made if you are incapable
Nidus operates the Personal Planning Registry. Registration is voluntary but helps make sure your wishes are known if you are incapable or cannot communicate.
As well, since October was RDSP month as well as Community Living Month, we had some information on setting up an Registered Disability Savings Plan:
- RDSP Resource Centre
- Endowment 150 – A grant from the Vancouver Foundation for people setting up RDSP’s
- Disability Alliance BC – RDSP Assistance Program – personal assistance to set up an RDSP
Our Open House is also the first time people see our 2014 Annual Report. Many thanks to Susan Stanfield for pulling together all the articles and pictures. You can read through it online, or drop by the office to pick up a paper copy.
Thanks to everyone who came out and we hope to see you next year.
